Contractions

Call us immediately if there are signs before 37 weeks of pregnancy that labor has begun (such as contractions). After 37 weeks, the following applies:

  • Are you giving birth to your first child? Always call us if you have regular contractions for more than an hour, every three to four minutes, with the contraction lasting about a minute.
  • Are you giving birth to your second or next child? Always call us when you have regular contractions for one hour, every five minutes, with the contraction lasting about one minute (unless we make other arrangements with you, then you will be told at the consultation).

Amniotic fluid loss

In case of amniotic fluid loss/broken membranes: always call us during the day. Try to collect the amniotic fluid (e.g. in a sanitary towel) so that we can look at it.
For amniotic fluid loss during the night, call the next morning at 09:00 unless:

  • You are not yet 37 weeks pregnant
  • The baby is not yet descended (you will hear this at the consultation)
  • The amniotic fluid is green or brown in color
  • You also have contractions

Blood loss

Mucous blood loss is normal. This could be the mucus plug or blood loss due to the widening of the cervix and the development of dilation. With bright red blood loss, as with a menstrual period: always call us.
